Domestic Violence Killings in the UK Hit Highest Level in Five Years
Domestic violence killings have reached a five-year high, according to new figures. Data obtained by the BBC from 43 police forces across the UK shows 173 people were killed in domestic violence-related homicides in 2018. This is an increase of 32 deaths compared to the previous year. The statistics show there were 165 domestic killings in 2014, 160 in 2015, 139 in 2016 and 141 in 2017.
Daughter Beats Stepsister in £300,000 Inheritance Battle
A woman has won a £300,000 inheritance battle against her stepsister in the High Court, hinging on whose parent died first, by using a 1925 law to argue that her mother legally outlived her stepfather. John and Ann Scarle, aged 79 and 69, died from hypothermia at their property in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, in October 2016.
